Like photographs and grocery lists, time capsules capture hopes and remembrances for future generations. A time capsule is for those in the future to know our present, and their historical past. A time capsule softens the flight of time.

iam2m presents two different time capsules at this turn into the next millennium. One is traditional-written and buried in an important place. The other is a public scrapbook recorded on digital video tape. It is not stored but can be opened right away.

The traditional capsule will contain a document on a scroll and be placed inside the Millennium Wall at Inspiration Point. No one knows when it will be taken out, unfurled and read again.

The video time capsules will be shown on CityTV and placed on library shelves. Anyone can check them out at any time, like a book, or a movie.

The Millennium Time Capsule at Inspiration Point

As we anticipate the turning of the calendar to "2000," memorialize your place in time by joining with City Council members, members of the Gabrielino/Tongva Nation and descendants of the City's founders in the signing of a special iam2m scroll during the October 2nd B.I.G. Stroll into the Millennium. The scroll will be preserved in a sealed Millennium Time Capsule.

With the beautiful natural landscaping of Palisades Park's Inspiration Point in the background-with music and storytelling bringing friends and neighbors together-add your name to the Time Capsule which will be imbedded into a special Millennium Wall, symbolizing the past contributions of local Native Americans, City founders, and the dynamic community of present Santa Monicans.

4-5 PM Digital Time Capsule, A Public Video Scrapbook

What it is. The Digital Time Capsule, A Public Video Scrapbook you won't have to wait to open. This time capsule records the iam2m you on digital video tape. Kids, teens, young and older adults-everyone is invited to think back, think about, and think ahead.

At each of five Digital Time Capsule events you will be able to record your observations and memories. Each recorded chronicle will be edited into half-hour programs and broadcast on CityTV. The Digital Time Capsule, A Public Video Scrapbook will be available at the Santa Monica Public Library and the Santa Monica Historical Society Museum.

We'll be at public events in public places... Presented at public events-the B.I.G. Stroll, on the Third Street Promenade, at a Farmers Market-anyone at any age from three to 103-years-old who wants to participate is invited. Just show up, no appointment necessary.

To record you for the millennium... You will sit in front of a CityTV video camera and be asked a question, like, "What will you tell your children about the 20th century?"

Everyone will be asked the same question in each segment. A question for you to inhabit, look at, remember and imagine its future. There will be no right or wrong answers. What the time-capsule-video-scrapbook wants is your answer.
