EXPO
will be one of the first channels developed for launch that is fully
enriched with digitally enhanced material from the start. The company
is developing its programming and acquisitions slate with enhanced TV
in mind, thus making it unique in the marketplace.
Analysts
indicate that growth in the number of homes with PCs has begun to flatten,
and they expect that flatness to continue in the next few years. At
the same time, the richness of Web content, measured both by the number
of new Web sites and the number of sites adding video content, will
continue to see explosive growth. As the richness of Web content progresses
while the traditional PC platform for Web access stagnates, the time
is right for a new platform - one that can truly take advantage of ever-richer
Web content without the need for a PC.
Between
now and the year 2005, analysts project that the number of homes with
broadband digital TV set tops will skyrocket. Those digital set tops
provide entertainment-quality video and tremendous bandwidth. With the
right enabling technology, those devices can also support Web-based
services to make the standard broadband digital TV set top a perfect
fit as the new low-cost, high-capability Web access platform.
