UPCtv and ENI to launch 'Expo: The Design Channel' in autumn

Amsterdam, June 4, 1999

In the autumn of 1999 UPCtv launches across Europe a totally new channel devoted to style and design. Programming for this channel, to be called 'EXPO -The Design Channel', will be acquired and created by Expo Networks International (ENI). The channel will feature award-winning series and documentaries as well as new original programming that will be broadcast 24 hours a day.

UPCtv, a subsidiary of United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC), is a channel creation and distribution company that already has launched Extreme Sports Channel and Film1 this month in the Netherlands.

'EXPO -The Design Channel' will offer a wide range of programmes covering architecture, fashion, graphic, industrial and interior design, visual and contemporary art and photography. The channel is targeted at people who are interested in and appreciate art and design as well as those who work in these fields.

William Lee, president, CEO and founder of ENI, based in Santa Monica, US, commented: "We are delighted and very excited to have partnered with a company in Europe as committed to providing new and innovative quality programming as UPCtv. Expo is an international exposition of design, giving the wider public as well as design professionals an in-depth look at the people behind design, their accomplishments, the creative process and their visions for the future. "

Simon Oakes, managing director of UPCtv, said: "This new channel is a very special addition to the range of television channels that UPCtv is going to offer to cable operators during the course of the year. It is clear that there is a growing demand for special interest programming like this."
